Practise your preparation and safety skills
There are many organisations and associations that offer activities and training courses that you can use to improve your own and other’s ability to cope with unexpected situations. Here are some examples:
- The National Defence Training Association of Finland (MPK) – a lot of different preparedness and safety skills trainings, the themes of which include first aid skills, outdoor skills, navigation on water, self-defence and search skills, among others.
- The Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK), Alkusammutus (First-aid fire extinguishing) training
- Women’s National Emergency Preparedness Association (in Finnish), for example, Selviytyminen sähköttä (Surviving without electricity) course, Henkinen kriisinkestävyys (Psychological resilience) course and Informaatiovaikuttaminen (Information influence activities) course
- Finnish Red Cross (SPR), first aid courses
- The Voluntary Rescue Service (Vapepa), for example, Etsintäkurssi (Search skills course) and Ensihuollon peruskurssi (Basic emergency support services skills course)
- Contract fire brigade; you will learn first-aid fire extinguishing and first aid skills, for example
- The Guides and Scouts of Finland – a hobby where you will learn nature and camping skills, among others
- Save the Children Finland, for example, Lapsen kohtaaminen kriiseissä (Encountering children in crises) course
